PHIL'S REVIEW
The Human Touch It's his music, it's his own sound, own songs, his own beat. I've seen David O'Leary progress from making his own cassettes 15 years ago in the lounge room studio to his latest offering"The Human Touch!"
David is the driving force of Exeter Groove which has been around under different guises since 1999 as Exeter Blues, just add the GROOVE and you've got it. Great music to groove to. Track one "Future's so Bright" goes to show where Exeter Groove is heading, a bright future I'm sure. Fifteen tracks of blood sweat and tears.
Stand out tracks, apart from track one, would have to be the raunchy "Ain't Always Pretty" the title track" The Human Touch" a great piece of song writing, "Shake and Groove" there is that word again, "Rain" and the quiet side of Exeter Groove with "Red Sky Tonight".
Exeter Groove are going to be around for a long time yet, so get out and catch them live. You will be pleasantly surprised. It's good to hear that they have been listed for the Australian Blues Music Festival, Goulburn 2007 for which I have been the Journalist for the past 3 years and I've seen the cream of Australian Blues Music and believe me Exeter Groove are up there, a unique sound, Just Groovy.

Exeter Groove-
Keith Newmann. Appealing to a diverse and often quirky group of listeners. CD sales have spanned continents and languages, even with a Toe dipped into the Asian market. Digital down-loads are high for a first release on a non label recording. " A duo of drums /percussion and vocals, harp, acoustic guitar trimmed with slide. Robbie Souter brings his drumming finness into it's own. Dave O'Leary sings it like it is, laconic and straight to the point with an honesty that gets under your skin and rings true long after you've finished listening. Lightening struck when Shane Pacey pushed the record button on this album."
Przemek Draheim Polish Radio Host "…they have recorded a great piece of roots music"
Glen Bowker-Rockdog "…Dave's band consists of drums featuring sticks and brushes pretty well equally throughout… track one starts with brushes in a fine sounding Cajun shuffle that sets up the rest of the tracks nicely. Track two introduces the big slide sound and the rest of the material unfolds from there. There is nothing too fast or slow and every song says something interesting.
Slick Sideburns- Bop Street Rock-a-Billy and Blues radio show " ..another tract penned from the hand of Dave O'Leary the king of Blues-a-Billy."
The K-man "A great example of Australian Blues…great drumming from Robbie Souter..a groove master in his own right."
Col Ray-Col Ray and the Scary Cats "These guys have a distinctive sound that is an Australian blues signature"
Carolyn "The harmonica and the song-writing are extraordinary"
Ursula Hamburg "Is it blues? It pushes the limits…"
Alan Burt UK "A refreshing change from those guitar solos" Perhaps you need to listen, to form your own opinion. Many thanks Dave O'Leary.
